Internal Funding Opportunities 

Center for Medical Innovation (CMI)

The Center for Medical Innovation (CMI), part of the Swanson School of Engineering, hosts the Early Stage Medical Technology Development & Commercialization program on campus.

The CMI is currently requesting preproposals for the Early-Stage Medical Technology Research and Development Round-1 2025 Pilot Funding Program. The Pilot Funding program supports the mission of the CMI to develop innovative new solutions to clinical challenges that result in improvements in patient care through clinical/technical partnerships. Preproposals, using the Clinical Concept Questionnaire, must be submitted by 11:59 PM on April 9, 2025 via email to cmi@pitt.edu with the subject line, "CMI earlystage preproposal submission."

Clinical & Translational Science Institute (CTSI)

The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) supports a wide range of research efforts at the University of Pittsburgh through a diverse portfolio of funding opportunities.

David C. Frederick Honors College

The David C. Frederick Honors College offers a variety of funding through Research & Creative Fellowships and Honors Awards.

Humanities Center

The Humanities Center supports different categories of Fellowships.

Institute for Cyber, Law, Policy, and Security

​​​​​​​The Pitt Cyber Accelerator Grants (PCAG) offered by the Institute for Cyber Law, Policy, and Security provide initial funding for novel and innovative projects that advance Pitt Cyber’s mission: to bring the breadth of one of the world’s leading public research universities to bear on the critical questions of networks, data, and algorithms, with a focus on the ever-changing gaps among law, policy, and technology.

​​​​​​​Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation

Annually, the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation (MCSI) at the University of Pittsburgh requests faculty grant proposals for interdisciplinary sustainability education and research initiatives.

​​​​​​​Office of Research, Health Sciences

The Office of Research, Health Sciences (OORHS) hosts the annual Competitive Medical Research Fund (CMRF) to support junior scientists in developing preliminary data and hypotheses that will enable submission of high competitive applications to national funding sources.

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center

The UPMC Hillman Cancer Center funds basic, translational, clinical, and population-based research to advance the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. Funding from the Hillman Cancer Center is provided through Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) Research Programs, Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPOREs), and Research Centers.

The Melanoma and Skin Cancer SPORE is accepting applications for the Development Research Program (DRP) and Cancer Enhancement Program (CEP). Intent to submit a proposal should be indicated via email by April 30, 2025. Applications are due on May 31, 2025. Please see the programs' joint Request for Proposals (RFP) for more information.
